TOURIST INFORMATION ABOUT LORETO BAY / NOPOLO
Nopolo, aka Loreto Bay, is about a 10 minute drive south of the city of Loreto and only about 5 minutes south of Loreto airport. Here is a way to describe Loreto Bay /Nopolo: Its a gringo, (tourist and retiree) community the size of a housing tract, that has about ten restaurants and a few small mini-markets. It spans from north to south for about 3/4 of a mile. The town of Nopolo / Loreto Bay is growing and will continue to add more homes, business and amenities.
Loreto Bay is a master-planned community developed on the idea of an urbanization feel with traditional Mexican style. All the villas and commercial properties look similar from the outside. The main street in Nopolo / Loreto Bay is known as the "Paseo" that connects the northern Agua Viva neighborhood with the southern Founders neighborhood. As of the year 2020, there are about 700 completed villas. Ultimately, Nopolo / Loreto Bay will have about 6,000 homes.
Nopolo / Loreto Bay started to be built around 2005 but a few years later, ran into trouble in the housing crash/recession inn 2009. At times, there were unfinished villas with rebar popping out from the walls. Persistence and passion kept pushing the project forward and Nopolo continued to be built. Today Nopolo / Loreto Bay is a sight to be seen. Just gorgeous.
LORETO BAY / NOPOLO IS A SMALL SAFE COMMUNITY
Within Nopolo, there is the beautiful Loreto Bay Golf and Resort which is located right on the beach! There are also some condominium complexes on the southern side and hundreds of villas throughout. .
The town of Nopolo / Loreto Bay is nothing like the city of Loreto. There isn't the hustle and bustle of a city. It is quietly filled with retirees and tourists from the US and Canada. Some live here permanently, some are snow birds and some are here for a few days or weeks.
Since Nopolo / Loreto Bay is a smaller community, you do not have the choice of hundreds of restaurants to choose from and a large super market. But, what it does offer is several unique and tasty restaurants and three mini-market.
There are about 20,000 residents between the city and communities of Loreto. To put that in perspective, the two Cabos (Los Cabos and San Jose Del Cabo) have about 300,000 people. Loreto has a small/big town feel, which gives you more options than a little fishing village.

THE VIBE IN LORETO BAY / NOPOLO
Nopolo / Loreto Bay is not at all like Cabo. It is quiet, but you can still have a great time. Unless you don't like: fishing, snorkeling, kayaking, biking, swimming, sunbathing, drinking, horseback riding, boating, relaxing, shopping, eating.... Well you get the idea.
Nopolo / Loreto Bay is a sleepy town and if peace and quiet is your thing too, then you will fit right into your surroundings in Nopolo. At certain times, it might even feel like a ghost town (a very cool one).
Nopolo / Loreto Bay is made up of many retirees and some tend to like retired stuff, like reading a book, eating some food and hanging out with their friends, while others are more active. As a heads up, if you rent a villa and play loud music etc. your neighbors will most likely complain.
If you want to be a little loud, then just head down to the beach or to Hotel Loreto Bay. Put your chair in the water and have a drink or several drinks. Just remember to put on some sunblock. The Nopolo /Loreto Bay sun can be quite intense.
The water in Nopolo / Loreto Bay is much more gentle and warm compared to the Pacific side. You will be surprised how after one quick flight, you are in a place that is a cross between Lake Havasu and the Caribbean. Two really cool places right?
